Every ten years, twelve girls are selected to join and become Swans - Swans are trained and taught to display capacities way above the average, they are the perfect daughters. Once they have completed their educations, they are sent to families. It isn't the families who choose the swans, it is the orphanage itself who select families as it is an honor to have a Swan. Only powerful families, the ones who are in command of this world. There is a boys wing as well, The Crows of Delivrance, under a different names where the boys are raised to be assassins ; for the same purpose, the boys are sent to kill powerful figures such as politician who might get in the way of the cult. In reality the swans are a grand scaled human experiment, lead by the mother supreme Libitina, who has started this experiment being part of The Twelve - her experiment has the purpose of creating the perfect soldiers through many techniques of brainwashing and grooming. Gaya is known to be an art collector. The gallery however, despite attracting the eye of many art afficionados and gaining in popularity since Gaya bought it, is mainly a cover. Gaya uses the gallery to communicate with her organization, the House of Misericorde and useful allies to her many causes. It the perfect safe place to meet up with other important figures of the political scene and her personal investigators and assassins. She paints too, sometimes her paintings are brushes of memories from the Swan of Misericorde. She doesn't expose her own work hovever, she never does.

Chapter 1 : the house of misericorde
Gaya grew up as an orphan in the all girls orphanage The Swans of Misericorde, in Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom, with her twin sister Kaeleena. The orphanage policy was to raise these abandonned girls from all around the world to become important figures in every country they could implement themselves. Every ten years they select twelve promising girls to become swans. The place was using unorthodox methods to shape them as humans with an intellect and physical abilities above the average human : brainwashing and grooming. Her life changes when finally comes the day of the adoption, organized as a ceremony. As planned, the family taking Gaya in is a powerful one, the Legrand family, one of the the greatest wealths of France. She is now the daughter of Lucien Legrand, politician, who later down his career becomes the minister of justice, and of Marie-Hélène Legrand, a proud philantropist at the head of several fundations that contributes to the family wealth. The wealth and influence of the family transforms her life. If the Swans of Misericorde gave her a lot, it was strict, and nothing compared illimited resources and freedom she could access now, being the daughter of a politician in France. A freedom that of course comes with a price : whe, she will be of age, she will have to take care of the missions assigned to her by the House of Misericorde.
Chapter 2 : poor things
Quickly enough she takes the path of the law by working at the family firm : Legrand and Associates. Gaya demands a gallery to her adoptive father as a reward of her good behaviours to embrace one of her passion : Art. Her father accepts for her to buy La maison Vermillion, in january 2015, in Paris - a gallery where she can expose her art collections and invite her favorite artists to expose in. Her time is dedicated to working at the law firm and her free time is spent at the gallery. Beyond this picture perfect, the Legrand family are also known for their hidden activities. In order to maintain their influence and wealth, they conduct many illegal activities that are kept away from the public eye. In this corrupted bath, Gaya thrives. However, she realizes this power comes with downsides. A complicated relationship builds with her adoptive farther as she ages : Gaya being a tool as well in his asciencion to power. On the other hand, the House of Misericorde uses her too, for the exact same reasons. Her who got raised as a Swan to insert a powerful family but to never take the lead of it ; her who was instructed to get married and birth an heir like all heiresses do ; her who all her life has been told to do as she should do. It escalates inside of her, this rage of being a puppet. Gaya is less and less at peace. Migraines, they are louder as time comes. Memories, flashbacks, something hidden in her head that she doesn't manage to pinpoint besides the medical prescriptions from the House of Misericorde has been feeding her for years now. Gaya decides to open the pages of her past, of the place she comes from. The swans of misericorde wasn't just an orphanage for promising girls, it wasn't just " her family " - it was bigger than that. A place that brainwashed her, a place that inserted oh so many things inside her head she could ask herself who she truly is. It is then she decided to murder her adoptive father and free herself from his influence. It is time for her coup d'état. Pursuing her asciencion in the law field, Gaya is named Judge. Judge Lockwood. Gaya is now the most powerful in the Lockwood family, and one of the most powerful in the city. Her rules. When being of age to graduate from the Swans of Misericode, Kaeleena is sent to study in Cabridge, at the university of Medecine. it is not so dfifficult for Kaeleena who manages to excel and become a surgeon, specialized in neurosurgery. In parallel, she gives lectures and conferences to the university of Oxford and contibues at the Swans by the side of Libitina, she learns how to perform a forbidden type of surgery that aims to rewire a brain better than all the known brainwashing techniques. She also works on eugenism, in order to play god on genetics. Her ultimate goal is to manage to create a new generations of Swans and Crows : the perfect soldiers. To her, brainwashing isn't enough as she sees the limitations of it. She wants to transcend the human condition and become God.

Once Kaeleena becomes mother supreme of the House of Misericorde, she turns the daughter of Misericorde into mutants, herself included. Her and the sisters are now genetically designed to maximize the physical and mental potential of humanity. As a result, Kaeleena adepts possessed abilities that could not be rivaled by humans. Physically, she can control every muscle and nerve in a body down to molecular level. The results of this change are numerous abilities, including:- Internal Organic-Chemical Control: she can develop complete control over the functions of internal organs and body chemistry. Therefore is immune to poisons, as she can simply change the chemical makeup of any harmful substance in her body and render it harmless.
- The Voice: Ability to influence people directly by giving them orders with a certain sound frequency. When a person is ordered to do something by the use of Voice it is almost impossible not to comply.

Chapter 1 : the house of misericorde
Kaeleena is Gaya's twin sister, she was raised in orphanage The Swans of Misericorde. The orphanage goal is to raise these girls from all around the world to become important figures of this world using unorthodox methods to shape them as humans with an intellect and abilities to respond above the average human. Every ten years they select twelve girls to become swans. A the age of 12, every girl is send into a powerful family chosen by the House accross the world. Unlike her twin sister Gaya, Kaeleena won't follow the swan path. Indeed, while all the girls are adopted by families and inserted in society, Kaeleena appears different. The way she thinks and sees the world shows something dark - the ones owning the orphanage realizes they cannot possibly let her go. Kaeleena is a genius, she excels at classes, even more than the other swans do. Libitina, the head fg the orphanage insists on keeping Kaeleena with her, offering her private classes for something the others won't get access to : a project. Libitina tells to Kaeleena that later she wants Kaeleena to be the one who runs the orphanage, to take her place as mother supreme/ If until now the swans are orphan girls who are brainwashed then taught and trained, Kaeleena believes they can wants to go even furthur. Brain surgery, transhumanism and eugenism : a set of beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality. What if they could make the "swans" even more powerful, even more intelligent, even more ahead of regular humans by interfering in their genomic? Kaeleena accessing such a terrible secret, such a grand project put distance between her and the other girls.
Chapter 2 : creators and creations

For the first time she will get to design the map for a volunteer who will become an humanAi, to ally human and technology. Kaeleena accepts the project, believing it is one step furthur towards what she wants to achieve. The first HumanAi is sees the day and it is an absolute revelation for her. The HumanAi in question will serve her organization, the House of Misericorde, along with the organization that took care of the technology provided for such project. Kaeleena however falls in love with the HumanAi, seeing in him everything she ever wanted and desired. Begin a dangerous game of love and power play that leads her to learn more and more about how the perfect alliance of perfect brain and perfectly balanced emotions is difficult to obtain. Through this journey she also learns about herself : with this obsession of hers to become God, it makes her unravel her soul. Let's not forget Kaeleena has also been brainwashed. There is a dark deep inner conflict about it : can she truly be God, if a God above her made her the way she is? The inner conflict does not stop her however as she pursues down a dangerous path.

The day the House of Misericorde begins to crumble, Kaeleena stands at its helm, resolute and unwavering. She has always been the one to see things clearly, to understand the sacrifices needed for power. Her sister, Gaya, and the other Swans—they were too weak, too sentimental, too easily swayed by emotion. Kaeleena had long known that the Swans of old were flawed, their loyalty fragile and their minds susceptible to doubt. It was clear to her that the next generation of Swans needed to be different: stronger, smarter, and unbreakable. As the fires rage and the House is torn apart by her sister and the others who have turned against her, Kaeleena remains focused. She knows this day would come. Xero has been chosen by the Lockwood family to be linked to Kaeleena. Their souls should make one and together, they will be powerful. Gaya meets Kitty by the side of Taiyang and Quinn. To her, Kitty is just a sidekick, someone who she does not hold too much respect for. It is ironic then, that Kitty will be Gaya's ultimate downfall. As Gaya will in the future manage to con Taiyang and Quinn, locking them behind bars for the murder of her father - one they did not commit - Kitty will be the one to re unite with the underground scene by the side of other big names in order to track Gaya down, and in a last man standing fight : cause her death by shooting her. It is unfortunate for Kitty than Gaya survives, with her very own plan of avenging herself and coming after him.
i hate you but not really
Janus is named as the successor as headmaster at the house of misericorde, meaning he will take the head of the orphanage and the cult together with Kaeleena, Gaya's sister. As for Gaya and Janus, ever since they were young, they fight. The swan was never afraid of dirtying her dress by jumping on him to pin him down the ground and fight him : not very ladlylike for a swan. They grew up and nothing changed, they still like to bicker and fight, even if less violently than in their youth, it's their way of communicating. In the end they understand and appreciate each other more than they would admit.
run run runaway
Leto has grown at the orphanage of the House of Misericorde and Delivrance, together with Gaya, Minwoo, Kaeleena, Ker and others. Gaya has always been a little surprised at Leto's demaneors, he tended to be disconnected, disocciated there. Leto then become a deserter and is being chased by the House. Gaya will end up helping Leto hiding, as, despite him being accused of betrayal against the House, Gaya does not think he deserves to die. She even more is keen on saving him when she learns he is the one who got Ker pregnant.

Minwoo has also been raised at the House of Misericorde and Delivrance, the same as Gaya and Kaeleena however, Minwoo was in the all boys facility as a Crow of Delivrance. The rules were very strict back at the orphanage : the boys and the girls were not supposed to meet. They could only cross paths for ceremonies and common classes. Kaeleena used these common times to observe Minwoo. Among all the crows, he is the most skilled, the most talented but lacks all social and emotional skill. His spectrum is fascinating to her. He also seems to have the perfect genes. All the medical files she has them, but Minwoo's seems to been missing. Why?
cousin and rivals
Seraphina is Bellamy's sister therefore Gaya's adoptive cousin as well. Seraphina is always spotted by Bellamy's side, the two never go anywhere without the other. Due to Bellamy's influence, Seraphina also is wary of Gaya and isn't known to get along with her. She however sometimes slow Bellamy's down on some of his schemes that might be going too far : Seraphina sometimes can be seen having a conversation or two with Gaya, perhaps without Bellamy around, these two could have been a little closer and who knows, on the same side of the family quarrel.

Besides her friendship with Taiyang, Gaya does not trust Ara aka. Quinn, Taiyang's partner in life and in crime. Gaya does know the situation is a complicated one as her father is the target of their gang. However, Gaya insists : her own father is her Own target and she doesn't tolerate anyone else taking his head off but her. Quinn disobeys that agreement as she attempts to murder Mr. Kang, Gaya's father. To these actions Gaya understands Quinn is unstable, mentally, by watching the tapes of the vigilante sneaking into her father's hotel room with explosives. An information she keeps to herself for now but will use to her advantage as again : she does Not tolerate for her rules to be broken - especially by supposed allies.

Gaya understands Taiyang. In Korea, they are both from powerful families, the Kangs and the Tsengs, and both ended up representing their family legacies. Titles that come with responsabilities, secrets and fears they aren't so allowed to display. Leaders, they are meant to be however, broken ones however. They get a drink, they do business, they talk - however, Gaya has to be careful, she isn't supposed to spend so much time befriending the gangs and this side of the city. It all goes down when Taiyang's significant other, Ara, attempts to kill Gaya's father. Gaya has it all in tape and will not hesitate to use it agains the both of them. It is the end of a friendship and alliance.

Ker and Kaeleena have grown together at the orphanage The Swans of Misericorde. As all their sisters have been adopted, Ker and Kaeleena are the only ones who were not affiliated to any family. It felt lonely for the both of them to watch their sisters go visit their new families in the holidays. Kaeleena found friendship, care and a safe place with Ker. To the poitn Kaeleenaa developped a codependent relationship with her for the past 20 years. If Kaeleena caught feelings for Ker, it was obvious Ker didn't feel the same way. Kaeleena's heart broke the day she saw Ker being romantic with a man. It hurt.
cousin and rivals
Bellamy is Gaya's older adoptive cousin, Gaya's uncle's son. Each branch of the Kang family has power in a very specific territory: while for Gaya it's the politic side, for Bellamy, it's the medias. With the perfect control of both, the Kang family holds a strong control over the country. It appears however that Bellamy is greedy and has his eyes on Gaya's slice of the cake. He is the only one among the cousins clearly remembering Gaya isn't one of them but was adopted. His plans to take her down and find the truth behind Gaya's adoption knows no end : Gaya's many enemies will soon become his friends.
can we be sisters
Aeri is the little sister of Bellamy and Seraphina. She is known to be the rebellious Kang, the one who did not bend to the family expectations. It lead Aeri not to be liked so much by her older siblings, Bellamy and Seraphina - however, she does get along well with Gaya. Indeed, the both of them being considered the parias of the family, Gaya and Aeri spent and still spend a lot of time together. They protect each other from the bad intentions of the rest of the family. Gaya would have loved to have Aeri as her sister.
boyfriend or not boyfriend?
Mikoto is the brother of Gaya's best friend, Miharu. If they only have crossed paths through Miharu, Mikoto and Gaya happen to have good chemistry. It might be due to Mikoto's charm and easy goingness. Soon enough Gaya has a plan : what if Mikoto could be her fake boyfriend, only for a couple times, to stop her family from questionning her about her love life every single second. Indeed, the heiress is expected to soon find herself a husband. It is the last thing on her mind but Mikoto being the charming, successful Doctor that he is, he happens to be the perfect bachelor to introduce. It is all fake... Of course.
headmaster and headmistress
Janus has grown in the house of Misericorde together with Gaya, Minwoo, Kaeleena and Ker. Later, he is named as the successor as headmaster at the house of misericorde, meaning he will take the head of the orphanage and the cult together with Kaeleena. There is between them trust, the type of trust needed to run a place like this with oh so many secrets. Kaeleena does not hesitate to be her self in front of Janus, it is important for her to be, as they will be working side by side for the rest of their lives, having to carry the legacy of the house of misericorde. It is an honor for these two who are known to be the most devoted swan and the most devoted crow to the house.
drama at the office
Gaya and Miharu meet through work, as Miharu is a prosecutor and Gaya, representant of Kang and Associates, her family's firm with which Miharu often works with. They soon become best friends. Scheming behind the backs of their coworkers, they often cause havoc at the office for their very own entertainment. The cases they work together are always handled and solved in a clean way as they both excel at their jobs : it leaves them enough time to stir a little drama and have a good laugh about it.
Let's be friends
Hyun is Aeri's best friend. Hyun one day came to Gaya to ask her to be represented in a diffamation case. Gaya accepts, saying Aeri's friends should be her friends too. Hyun has a strong character, just like Aeri, just like Gaya, too. The three of them should get along just fine, right?

Minwoo has also been raised at the House of Misericorde and Delivrance, the same as Gaya however, Minwoo was in the all boys facility as a Crow of Delivrance. Sometimes they would adventure in the night to meet by the river. Soon Minwoo becomes a little brother figure to Gaya. If Gaya was the loud troublemaker, Ker was smart in coming up with shenanigans to always get away with everything. With time however, Gaya wondered if something changed in between them, Ker seemed to embrace her religious faith more and more, unlike Gaya who would be more eager to sin and go against the church. Leto has grown at the orphanage of the House of Misericorde and Delivrance, as well. He would often spend time with Kaeleena and Ker whenever swans and crows could spend time together. Kaeleena has been keeping an eye on him as he more and more came to hang out. Leto then become a deserter and is being chased by the House. Kaeleena learns that he deserted due to getting Ker pergnant, which is considered a sin at the House. Kaeleena will track him to death.
